Humpback Whale 'Timmy' Found Dead Off Danish Coast

Summary

The humpback whale known as 'Timmy,' previously stranded off Germany's Baltic coast, has been found dead near Denmark's Anholt island, two weeks after a controversial rescue operation.

A humpback whale found dead near Denmark's Anholt island has been identified as 'Timmy,' the same whale that was stranded off Germany's Baltic coast earlier this year. The Danish Environmental Protection Agency confirmed the identification after retrieving a tracking device attached during previous rescue efforts.

Timmy was first spotted off the German coast on March 3, 2026. After multiple failed attempts to guide him back to deeper waters, a private initiative transported him via barge to the North Sea, where he was released on May 2.

The whale's carcass was discovered on May 14 near Anholt island, approximately 70 kilometers from the release point. Authorities have advised the public to keep a safe distance from the carcass due to potential health risks associated with decomposition.
