Israeli Airstrike Kills Hamas Military Leader Izz al-Din al-Haddad
An Israeli airstrike in Gaza City has killed Izz al-Din al-Haddad, the leader of Hamas' military wing and a key figure in the October 7, 2023 attacks.
An Israeli airstrike in Gaza City on Friday resulted in the death of Izz al-Din al-Haddad, the leader of Hamas' military wing and a principal architect of the October 7, 2023 attacks that led to the ongoing conflict.
Al-Haddad, who assumed leadership after the death of his predecessor Mohammed Sinwar, was killed along with six others in the strike. His family confirmed his death on Saturday.
The Israeli military described the operation as significant, stating that al-Haddad had been instrumental in planning and executing the October 7 attacks, which resulted in approximately 1,200 Israeli deaths and over 250 hostages taken to Gaza.
Despite a ceasefire in place since October 2023, violence has persisted. According to Gaza's Health Ministry, more than 850 people have been killed since the ceasefire began, with over 72,700 Palestinians killed overall since the war's inception.
Al-Haddad's funeral took place in Gaza City, where his body was wrapped in Hamas and Palestinian flags.
Israeli military chief Eyal Zamir emphasized the ongoing efforts to hold accountable those involved in the October 7 attacks, stating, "We will not relent until we reach them all."
The situation remains tense as both Israel and Hamas accuse each other of ceasefire violations, with key issues like the disarmament of Hamas stalling progress toward a lasting peace.
