Russia Intensifies Airstrikes on Kyiv, Causing Civilian Casualties

Russia has escalated its aerial assaults on Kyiv, launching a series of drone and missile attacks that have led to substantial civilian casualties and widespread damage to infrastructure. Ukrainian officials report that over 1,500 drones and more than 50 missiles were deployed in the past two days.

In Kyiv's Darnytsia district, a nine-story apartment building was demolished, resulting in the deaths of at least nine civilians, including a 12-year-old girl. Over 30 individuals were injured, with approximately 20 still unaccounted for. The attacks have also caused power outages across Kyiv and 11 other regions.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attacks, stating that Russia's deliberate targeting of civilian areas aims to create maximum difficulties for Ukraine's air defense systems. He emphasized the need for improved interception capabilities, noting that while 94% of drones were intercepted, only 73% of missiles were successfully shot down.

The Kremlin has reiterated President Vladimir Putin's assertion that the conflict is nearing its conclusion. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov indicated that groundwork has been laid for the peace process, allowing for optimism about the conflict's end, though he noted that specific details are not yet available.

Despite these statements, the recent surge in attacks underscores the ongoing intensity of the conflict and its devastating impact on Ukrainian civilians and infrastructure.
