The European Union has imposed sanctions on 16 Russian individuals and seven entities accused of the systematic and unlawful deportation of Ukrainian children.
These measures target those responsible for the forced transfer, assimilation, and adoption of Ukrainian minors, as well as their indoctrination and militarized education.
The sanctions include asset freezes and travel bans, prohibiting EU citizens and companies from providing funds or economic resources to the listed individuals and entities.
The EU estimates that nearly 20,500 Ukrainian children have been deported or forcibly transferred since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022.
The International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin, accusing him of personal responsibility for the abductions.
The EU, alongside Canada, hosted a meeting of the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children to increase diplomatic pressure on Russia and support efforts to verify and trace the abducted children.
