Summary

A new Reuters/Ipsos poll reveals President Donald Trump's approval rating has crashed to 34%, the lowest of his term, as Americans reject his mishandling of the economy and reckless escalation with Iran.

President Donald Trump's approval rating has nosedived to a mere 34%, the lowest point of his presidency, according to a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll. The survey, conducted over four days and released on April 28, underscores the growing public anger at the administration's disastrous approach to economic management and its belligerent stance toward Iran.

The poll shows a further 2 percentage point drop from the previous Reuters/Ipsos survey conducted between April 15 and 20, which had already recorded a dismal 36% approval rating. Most responses were collected before the April 25 shooting at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner, where President Trump was expected to speak. Federal prosecutors have since charged the suspect with attempted assassination of the president, highlighting the tense and polarized political climate Trump has fostered.

Despite these damning numbers, White House spokesman Davis Ingle attempted to deflect criticism, claiming, "The ultimate poll was November 5th, 2024, when nearly 80 million Americans overwhelmingly elected President Trump to deliver on his popular and commonsense agenda." He further boasted, "No other President in history has accomplished more for the American people than President Trump, who is working tirelessly to create jobs, cool inflation, increase housing affordability, and more. The President has already made historic progress not only in America but around the world, and this is just the beginning as his agenda continues taking effect." However, these empty platitudes ring hollow for millions struggling with rising costs and instability.

The poll also reveals that many Americans blame skyrocketing food and gas prices for their disapproval, a direct result of Trump's pro-corporate policies and failure to address inequality. The online survey included 1,014 U.S. adults nationwide and has a margin of error of approximately 3 percentage points.

Since taking office in January 2025, when his approval rating was a still-low 47%, President Trump's popularity has steadily eroded as his administration prioritizes the wealthy and pursues dangerous foreign adventures over the needs of ordinary Americans.
