IDF Conducts Airstrikes in Lebanon's Beqaa Valley Amid Renewed Clashes with Hezbollah
The Israel Defense Forces launched airstrikes targeting Hezbollah infrastructure in Lebanon's Beqaa Valley and southern regions, following recent attacks by the militant group.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) initiated airstrikes on Monday against Hezbollah infrastructure in Lebanon's Beqaa Valley and southern areas. This action follows recent attacks by the Iran-backed group, including a drone strike that resulted in the death of an Israeli soldier and injuries to six others.
In response to these developments, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun criticized Hezbollah for actions that serve "foreign interests," emphasizing that negotiating with Israel "is not betrayal."
The IDF reported the interception of a Hezbollah drone launched toward Israeli troops in southern Lebanon, with no injuries reported. Additionally, Israeli forces discovered a cache of Hezbollah weapons, including drones, anti-tank devices, and firearms, in southern Lebanon.
Amid the escalating violence, local authorities in northern Israel announced the suspension of school activities and the implementation of independent security measures, citing concerns over ongoing Hezbollah attacks.
These events occur despite a U.S.-mediated ceasefire extension announced on April 23, intended to last until May 17. The ceasefire allows Israel to respond to "planned, imminent, or ongoing attacks" in self-defense.
Hezbollah has reportedly threatened to resume suicide bombings against Israeli forces, reminiscent of tactics used during previous conflicts.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened security consultations in response to the renewed Hezbollah attacks, underscoring the fragility of the current ceasefire and the potential for further escalation in the region.
