A Chicago police officer was killed and another critically injured on Saturday morning when a suspect opened fire at Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital. The deceased officer, aged 38, had served with the department for 10 years. The injured officer, aged 57, is a 21-year veteran and remains in critical condition at Illinois Masonic Medical Center. Their identities have not been released pending family notification.

The suspect fled the hospital after the shooting, prompting a brief shelter-in-place advisory for the surrounding neighborhood. He was apprehended nearby shortly after noon, and a firearm was recovered.

Endeavor Health stated that the suspect was wanded upon arrival as part of their public safety weapon detection protocols and was escorted by law enforcement at all times. No hospital staff or patients were injured during the incident.
