President Trump Initiates Renovation of Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool

President Donald Trump has announced plans to renovate the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool by applying a new 'American flag blue' surface, aiming to address its deteriorating condition.

During an Oval Office event on Thursday, President Trump expressed concern over the pool's state, describing it as 'leaking like a sieve' and in 'terrible shape.' He recounted a recent visit with Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, stating, 'I said, 'Well, we're gonna solve the problem.''

The renovation involves coating the pool's bottom with a modern swimming pool surface in 'American flag blue,' replacing the existing granite. President Trump emphasized the project's efficiency and cost-effectiveness, noting that it would be completed in a fraction of the time and cost previously estimated. The project is expected to be finished in time for the U.S. 250th Independence Day celebration on July 4.

This initiative is part of a series of renovations under President Trump's direction, including the demolition of the White House’s East Wing to add a new ballroom. The President highlighted the importance of maintaining national landmarks, stating, 'You're going to end up with a beautiful, beautiful reflecting pool, the way it's supposed to be.'

The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, constructed in the 1920s, underwent a comprehensive renovation in 2012, funded by $34 million in stimulus funding. Despite these efforts, issues such as algae growth and structural concerns have persisted, prompting the current renovation plans.
