Documentary Reveals Gilgo Beach Killer's Confession and Rituals

Summary

A new documentary features Rex Heuermann's confession to the Gilgo Beach murders and details his methodical approach to the crimes.

A recently released documentary provides an in-depth look into the actions of Rex Heuermann, who has confessed to the murders of eight women along Long Island's Gilgo Beach. The film features interviews with Heuermann's ex-wife, Asa Ellerup, and their children, offering insights into his double life.

Heuermann detailed a four-day ritual for each murder: building trust with his victims, killing them in a basement "kill room," spending a day with their bodies, and meticulously timing the disposal of remains on a beach 20 miles from his home. Therapist Alison Winter, who spoke with Heuermann, noted that by his eighth victim, he had refined his process to dispose of a body in just 37 seconds.

The documentary also reveals that Heuermann confessed to his family before changing his plea to guilty. Ellerup expressed mixed feelings about the confession, stating that while it provided some clarity, it was still challenging to comprehend.

Heuermann's sentencing is scheduled for June 17, where he is expected to receive multiple life sentences.
