Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer has resigned from her position amid allegations of misconduct, including an affair with a subordinate and misuse of public resources. White House Communications Director Steven Cheung announced her departure, stating she will transition to a role in the private sector.
Chavez-DeRemer, who assumed office in March 2025, faced scrutiny following reports of inappropriate behavior, such as drinking on duty and engaging in an affair with a member of her security detail. Additionally, her husband, Shawn DeRemer, was barred from the Department of Labor's headquarters after allegations of inappropriate conduct towards staff members.
Her resignation marks the third departure of a female Cabinet member during President Trump's second term, following the exits of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Attorney General Pam Bondi. Deputy Secretary Keith Sonderling has been appointed as acting Labor Secretary.
