Samsung Develops Thinner, Lighter Galaxy Z TriFold 2 with Enhanced Hinge Design

Summary

Samsung is reportedly developing the Galaxy Z TriFold 2, focusing on a refined hinge system to create a thinner and lighter device, with a potential launch in mid-2027.

Samsung is reportedly developing the Galaxy Z TriFold 2, aiming to address the bulkiness of its predecessor by introducing a refined hinge system. The original Galaxy Z TriFold, launched in December 2025, featured a dual-hinge design that, while innovative, resulted in a device measuring 12.9mm thick when folded and weighing 309 grams. In comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 measures 8.9mm in thickness and weighs 215 grams.

The new hinge system is expected to be lighter and more durable, contributing to a slimmer and more portable device. According to reports, the hinge has completed most of its verification process, and the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 could launch in mid-2027.

In addition to the TriFold 2, Samsung is also exploring a device with a slidable OLED display, potentially featuring a 7-inch screen when extended. This device is reportedly thinner than prototypes showcased at CES and MWC, with a possible announcement in late 2027 or early 2028.

These developments indicate Samsung's ongoing commitment to advancing foldable and expandable smartphone technologies, focusing on improving design and functionality to enhance user experience.
