Russian Forces Intensify Missile and Drone Strikes Across Ukraine
Russian military launched extensive missile and drone attacks on Ukraine, causing civilian casualties and infrastructure damage, while Ukrainian forces reported successful interceptions.
Russian forces conducted a large-scale missile and drone assault on Ukraine during the nights of April 14 and 15, targeting multiple regions and resulting in civilian casualties and infrastructure damage. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russian forces launched four guided air-to-surface missiles and 129 strike drones, including Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas types. Air defense systems intercepted or suppressed one missile and 114 drones over northern, southern, and eastern Ukraine.
In the Izmail port of the Odesa region, a civilian vessel under the Panamanian flag, the quay, a barge, and port equipment sustained damage. No civilian casualties were reported in this incident. In Sumy region, Russian forces conducted over 80 shellings across 26 settlements, resulting in the death of a 39-year-old man in the Hlukhiv community and injuries to a 40-year-old man in Bilopillia.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized the need for enhanced air defense systems and continued military support from European allies to counter ongoing Russian attacks. Germany has committed 4 billion euros in defense aid, Norway 9 billion euros, and Italy has expressed interest in joint defense production, particularly in drones.
Despite a Kremlin-declared 32-hour ceasefire for Orthodox Easter, Ukrainian officials reported continued Russian drone attacks, indicating the truce was not observed. Ukrainian military officer Serhii Kolesnychenko confirmed ongoing drone strikes at the frontlines, although artillery fire had paused in some areas.
Ukrainian forces have intensified counterattacks, reclaiming territory and conducting deep strikes on Russian infrastructure. In March, Ukrainian deep strikes hit over 70 Russian industrial targets, including oil and gas sites.
