U.S. Special Forces Rescue Second F-15 Airman from Iran

U.S. special forces have successfully rescued the second crew member of an F-15 fighter jet that was shot down over Iran, concluding a high-risk operation inside Iranian territory.

President Donald Trump announced the rescue early Sunday, describing the mission as "one of the most daring Search and Rescue Operations in U.S. History." The airman, serving as the weapons systems officer, sustained injuries but is expected to recover fully. The pilot was rescued earlier on Friday.

The operation involved dozens of military aircraft and encountered significant resistance from Iranian forces. A U.S. official noted that the mission included a CIA-led deception campaign to mislead Iranian forces about the airman's location, facilitating the successful extraction.

Iran's military claimed that several U.S. aircraft were destroyed during the operation, including two military transport planes and two Black Hawk helicopters. Footage on social media showed wreckage purportedly from the scene, which Reuters verified as being in the area.

This rescue operation comes amid escalating tensions between the U.S. and Iran, now entering their sixth week of conflict. President Trump has issued a 48-hour ultimatum for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage for global oil and gas supplies, threatening intensified attacks on Iran's energy infrastructure if the demand is not met.

Despite significant damage to its military and civilian infrastructure from U.S. and Israeli attacks, Iran continues to launch missile and drone strikes against Israel and U.S. allies in the Gulf region.
