EUCAP Somalia's Environmental Adviser recently attended the Country Humanitarian Forum in Mogadishu, convened by the Somali Disaster Management Agency. The event gathered government officials, UN agencies, donors, NGOs, and private sector representatives to discuss Somalia's shift from reactive humanitarian responses to proactive disaster risk management.
Chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama, the forum centered on the theme: 'From Response to Prevention: Advancing Proactive DRM and Drought Resilience in Somalia.' Discussions highlighted the implementation of the Revised National Disaster Management Policy 2026–2030, emphasizing a comprehensive governmental approach, anticipatory actions, and enhanced cross-sector partnerships.
Presentations underscored the importance of water security in drought resilience, alongside priorities in agriculture and livelihood protection. Participants stressed the need for better coordination among humanitarian, development, and climate sectors, as well as the necessity for predictable and flexible funding to support long-term resilience investments.
The forum demonstrated a commitment by the Somali government and its partners to adopt risk-informed, system-based, and investment-driven solutions, with water sector resilience being central to sustainable development and drought mitigation.
