Will Campbell, a climber from New Zealand, suffered a significant head injury after slipping during a climb at Red Rock Canyon near Las Vegas. The incident occurred around 2 p.m. last Saturday. His companion, Tomas Doell, described the experience as "traumatising for everybody involved in the situation."
Doell has initiated a fundraising campaign to help cover Campbell's medical expenses, emphasizing the financial burden of hospital bills and ongoing rehabilitation. He noted that while Campbell has travel insurance, it does not cover this particular accident. The campaign has raised nearly US$30,000 to date.
Campbell, an experienced climber, frequently visited Red Rock Canyon with friends. Doell highlighted the area's diverse climbing opportunities, stating, "There's just climbing for everyone." Campbell was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday, with a recovery period expected to take several months.
