Look Outside's April Fools' Kissing Feature Becomes Permanent 'Smooch Mode'
The April Fools' Day update in Look Outside, which introduced a kissing interaction with NPCs, has been made a permanent feature called 'smooch mode'.
On April 1, 2026, the developer of Look Outside released an update introducing a new interaction option: kissing. This allowed players to kiss non-player characters (NPCs), including enemies and neighbors within the game's cursed apartment building. The update modified character dialogues and sprites to reflect this new interaction, resulting in blushing eldritch horrors and stammering adversaries.
Following positive reception, developer Francis Coulombe announced that the 'smooch mode' would become a permanent feature. Players who initiated a game on April 1 and used the kissing feature with the wounded neighbor will find their save file permanently in smooch mode. Additionally, starting a new game and naming the character Sam 'Casanova' will activate this mode.
While not all characters and creatures are kissable, many are, including the Rat King, Pierre, and the bug-like character in the basement who consumes bandages. This addition offers players a novel way to engage with the game's characters and challenges.
