Casualties Reported in Gaza During Aid Distribution and Airstrikes

Summary

Israeli airstrikes and shootings near aid distribution sites in Gaza have resulted in multiple fatalities, according to hospital and U.N. reports.

Casualties in Gaza from Airstrikes and Shootings

Israeli airstrikes in Gaza early on Friday resulted in 15 reported fatalities. Hospital sources also stated that 20 individuals died in shootings while waiting for aid.

U.N. Human Rights Office Reports

The U.N. human rights office reported 613 deaths within a month in Gaza near humanitarian convoys and at aid distribution points run by an Israeli-backed American organization since late May.

  • Spokeswoman Ravina Shamdasani stated that the office could not attribute responsibility for the killings.
  • Shamdasani noted that the Israeli military has fired on Palestinians near distribution points operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF).
  • Of the total deaths, 509 were recorded as occurring at or near GHF distribution sites.
  • Shamdasani indicated that information is still being collected.

The GHF stated that there have been no serious injuries or deaths at its sites and that incidents outside their immediate area are under the responsibility of Israel’s military.

Evacuation Orders and Movement

The Israeli military issued new evacuation orders in northeast Khan Younis, advising Palestinians to move west in advance of planned operations against Hamas. These orders have resulted in the population being concentrated into smaller areas near the coast.

Fatalities Near Aid Distribution Sites

Officials at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis reported additional deaths near aid distribution sites overnight Friday:

  • Three individuals were killed near aid sites in Rafah, close to two GHF-operated locations.
  • Seventeen were killed while waiting for trucks in eastern Khan Younis, in the Tahliya area.

Of the 15 fatalities from Friday’s airstrikes, hospital sources said eight were women and one was a child. The strikes affected the Muwasi area, where many displaced people are residing in tents.

The Israeli military stated it is reviewing reports of the strikes. The military has previously indicated that it fires warning shots to manage crowds or at individuals approaching its troops.

U.N. Investigation

Shamdasani clarified that the recent fatalities were recorded both at GHF sites and near humanitarian convoys. The rights office’s count is based in part on hospital data.

On Friday, Israel’s military reported a soldier killed in combat in northern Gaza and stated that an investigation is ongoing. Since the conflict began, over 860 Israeli soldiers have been killed, including more than 400 in Gaza.

Developments in Ceasefire Efforts

Efforts to halt the 21-month conflict are ongoing.

"We’ll see what happens. We’re going to know over the next 24 hours," U.S. President Donald Trump stated when asked about the latest ceasefire framework.

Hamas reported that it is consulting with other Palestinian factions regarding a ceasefire proposal presented by Egyptian and Qatari mediators. Hamas plans to provide a final response after discussions conclude.

Trump previously stated that Israel had agreed to a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza and encouraged Hamas to accept the proposal.

Reported Casualties

According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, over 57,000 Palestinians have been killed in the territory. The ministry does not distinguish between civilians and combatants in its figures, but reports that more than half of those killed are women and children.

The conflict began when Hamas-led militants attacked southern Israel, resulting in 1,200 deaths and approximately 250 hostages taken.

Palestinian witnesses and Gaza’s Health Ministry report that several hundred people have been killed or injured by Israeli troops while attempting to reach aid sites since May.

The Israeli military has stated that it fires only warning shots, denies targeting civilians, and is investigating reports of civilian harm.
