US Intensifies Military Operations in Iran Amid Rising Tensions
The United States has escalated its military campaign in Iran, with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth emphasizing the commitment to achieving strategic objectives while acknowledging potential casualties.
The United States has intensified its military operations in Iran, with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announcing the most forceful day yet of airstrikes. Hegseth emphasized the U.S. commitment to concluding the conflict on its own terms, stating, "We set the tempo. We set the timeline led by the commander on the ground."
Despite the escalation, Hegseth acknowledged the inevitability of casualties, remarking, "The president’s been right to say there will be casualties. Things like this don’t happen without casualties. There will be more casualties." He also addressed concerns about the duration of the conflict, asserting that it would not become a prolonged engagement akin to previous wars, stating, "This is not Iraq. This is not endless."
The military campaign, known as Operation Epic Fury, aims to dismantle Iran's missile capabilities, naval forces, and prevent nuclear weapon development. Hegseth highlighted the strategic objectives, saying, "Destroy the missile threat. Destroy the navy. No nukes."
In response to the U.S. actions, Iran's top national security official, Ali Larijani, issued a warning to former President Donald Trump following intensified threats against Iran. The conflict has also led to global economic instability, particularly in oil and financial markets, after the shutdown of the Strait of Hormuz.
As the situation develops, the U.S. military continues to assert its air dominance over Iran, with Hegseth stating, "Our air defenses and that of our allies have plenty of runway. We can sustain this fight easily for as long as we need to."
