Pentagon Plans Intensified Strikes on Iran Amid Escalating Middle East Conflict
The U.S. Defense Secretary announced plans for the most intense day of strikes on Iran, as regional tensions escalate with ongoing conflicts involving Israel and Hezbollah.
The U.S. Department of Defense has announced plans for an intensified series of strikes on Iran, marking the most significant escalation since the conflict began 11 days ago. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that the Pentagon is providing President Trump with "maximum options" and emphasized that the military engagement will not be "endless."
This development follows President Trump's recent statements, which have conveyed mixed signals regarding the progress and duration of the conflict. In a phone interview, Trump suggested that the war is "very complete, pretty much," indicating that Iran's military capabilities have been significantly diminished. However, at a subsequent press conference, he highlighted ongoing efforts toward achieving military objectives and cautioned Iran against disrupting global energy supplies.
Concurrently, Iran has launched drones and rockets across the Gulf region. In response, Israel's military has conducted strikes targeting the financial infrastructure of Hezbollah in Lebanon. The conflict has resulted in significant casualties: over 1,200 fatalities in Iran, 570 in Lebanon, and 12 in Israel, according to health officials and authorities. The Pentagon reports that seven U.S. soldiers have died in the conflict to date.
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has asserted that Iran will determine the conclusion of the war. Spokesperson Ali Mohammad Naini stated, "Iran will determine when the war ends." Additionally, Sardar Shekarchi, a spokesperson for Iran's armed forces, referred to President Trump as "the delusional president."
In Lebanon, Israel has intensified attacks on Hezbollah targets, including assets and storage facilities linked to the Al-Qard Al-Hassan Association, which finances weapons purchases and provides salaries for Hezbollah members. Lebanon's President Joseph Aoun has called for international support to equip the Lebanese armed forces and expressed readiness to engage in direct talks with Israel under international mediation to seek a resolution.
The situation remains fluid, with ongoing military actions and diplomatic efforts shaping the trajectory of the conflict.
