In a related development, Saudi Arabia's Defense Ministry announced the interception and destruction of 16 drones targeting the Shaybah oil field in the Empty Quarter. Defense Ministry spokesperson Maj. Gen. Turki Al-Maliki confirmed that the drones were intercepted in four separate waves over the desert region. Additionally, Saudi air defenses intercepted a ballistic missile launched toward Prince Sultan Air Base and another drone east of Riyadh.
The United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for "serious diplomatic negotiations" to prevent further escalation, warning of a situation that could spiral beyond control. Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed support for an immediate ceasefire during a phone call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
