Oslo Police Charge Son of Norwegian Crown Princess with Rape and Sexual Assault
Oslo police have charged Marius Borg Høiby, son of Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit, with multiple counts, including rape, sexual assault, and bodily harm, following a months-long investigation involving a "double-digit" number of alleged victims.
Oslo police have charged Marius Borg Høiby, the 28-year-old son of Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit, with multiple offenses, including rape, sexual assault, and bodily harm. The charges follow a months-long investigation involving a "double-digit" number of alleged victims. Høiby, who is also the stepson of Crown Prince Haakon, was arrested several times in 2024 amid allegations of rape and preliminary charges of bodily harm and criminal damage. Oslo Police Attorney Andreas Kruszewski stated that Høiby cooperated during police questioning, which is now complete. Evidence was gathered from text messages, witness testimonies, and police searches. The charges include one count of rape involving intercourse, two counts of rape without intercourse, four counts of sexual assault, and two counts of bodily harm. Kruszewski confirmed that the number of victims is in the double digits but did not provide further details. Defense attorney Petar Sekulic stated that Høiby is taking the accusations seriously but denies wrongdoing in most cases, particularly those concerning sexual abuse and violence. The royal palace commented that the case is proceeding through the legal system following normal procedures and had no further statements. Høiby previously lived with the royal couple and their two children, Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus, but now resides in a separate house nearby. He remains free pending a possible trial and is entitled to a presumption of innocence until proven guilty in court. Crown Princess Mette-Marit married Crown Prince Haakon in 2001. At that time, she was a single mother whose previous partner had been convicted on drug charges.
