Apple Unveils iPhone 17e and M4 iPad Air, Expanding Product Lineup
Apple has introduced the iPhone 17e and M4 iPad Air, featuring enhanced performance and new features, with pre-orders starting March 4 and availability on March 11.
Apple has announced the launch of the iPhone 17e and the M4 iPad Air, marking the beginning of a series of new product releases. The iPhone 17e, succeeding the iPhone 16e, is equipped with the A19 chip, Apple's in-house C1X cellular modem, and MagSafe magnetic charging. Priced at $599, it offers 256GB of storage and is available in pink, black, and white. The device maintains a 6.1-inch screen and a single 48-megapixel rear camera.
The M4 iPad Air retains its previous design but incorporates the M4 processor, delivering a 30% performance increase over its predecessor. It includes the C1X modem, N1 wireless chip, and supports Wi-Fi 7 connectivity. The 11-inch model is priced at $599, while the 13-inch version is $799.
Pre-orders for both devices begin on March 4, with availability starting March 11. Apple is also expected to introduce new laptops this week, including its first entry-level MacBook with an iPhone-grade chip.
The iPhone 17e competes with mid-tier models from Samsung and Google's A-series, as well as offerings from Chinese manufacturers, particularly in emerging markets like India. The primary differences between the 'e' line and regular iPhones include camera capabilities, battery life, and screen size. The 17e lacks a high refresh rate display and does not feature Apple's Dynamic Island interface.
Later this year, Apple plans to launch the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, focusing on internal enhancements and camera improvements. Additionally, the company is preparing to debut its first foldable iPhone, entering a category pioneered by Samsung.
The iPad lineup performed strongly during the holiday season, exceeding Wall Street estimates. In the December quarter, the iPad business generated $8.6 billion, a 6.3% increase from the previous year.
