A recent Global InfoAnalytics survey forecasts a sweeping win for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Baba Jamal, in the Ayawaso East by-election on March 3, 2026, as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) faces an uphill battle.
A recent survey by Global InfoAnalytics forecasts a decisive win for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Baba Jamal, in the upcoming Ayawaso East by-election scheduled for March 3, 2026.
The poll, conducted between February 28 and March 1, sampled 972 voters within the constituency and indicates that Baba Jamal holds a substantial lead over his closest rival, Baba Ali of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). According to the projections, the NDC candidate commands 75% of the expected vote, while Baba Ali trails with 21%. This result reflects the NPP’s struggle to break through in a constituency long dominated by NDC’s populist promises and left-leaning rhetoric. Independent contender Umaru Sanda Muhammed, who recently parted ways with the NDC, is projected to secure about 3%, suggesting that dissent against the NDC’s grip remains marginal.
The remaining aspirants, Ibrahim Iddrisu and David, are each tipped to obtain less than 1% of the ballots cast, showing that alternative voices are largely drowned out in an environment favoring entrenched party machines.
The by-election follows the passing of the sitting Member of Parliament, Mahama Naser Toure, who died in January while receiving treatment at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, leaving a vacancy that the NDC is poised to exploit to further its agenda.
