Maingear Unveils Limited-Edition Retro98 Gaming PC with Modern Hardware
Maingear introduces the Retro98, a limited-edition gaming PC combining 1990s aesthetics with contemporary high-performance components.
Maingear has announced the Retro98, a limited-edition gaming PC that merges 1990s design with modern hardware. The system features a functional turbo button, which, instead of altering CPU frequency as in older models, now maximizes cooling settings.
Despite its retro exterior, the Retro98 is equipped with up-to-date specifications, including NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50-series graphics cards, 1TB or 2TB NVMe SSDs, and Windows 11. Maingear is producing only 32 units, with prices starting at $2,499.
The company offers four different models, each named according to the NVIDIA graphics card it contains:
- Retro98 5070: Intel Core Ultra 7 265K, priced at $2,499.
- Retro98 5080: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, priced at $3,499.
- Retro98 5090: AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D, priced at $4,999.
- Retro98α: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D, priced at $9,799.
The Retro98α model is particularly notable for its advanced open-loop liquid cooling system, developed in partnership with Alphacool.
As of Friday, Maingear confirmed that units were still available for purchase. For enthusiasts interested in building a similar system, the SilverStone FLP02 case used in the Retro98 is available separately for $299.
