Tesla Reports Decline in Q4 Earnings Amid Strategic Shift to AI and Robotics
Tesla's Q4 2025 earnings fell short of expectations, with a 3% revenue decline and a 60% drop in earnings per share, as the company pivots towards AI and robotics initiatives.
Tesla's fourth-quarter 2025 financial results revealed a 3% year-over-year decline in revenue to $24.9 billion and a 60% drop in earnings per share to 50 cents. The company attributed the revenue decrease to reduced average selling prices across its vehicle lineup.
Automotive revenue fell 8% to $19.8 billion, with vehicle deliveries declining 16% year over year. Tesla produced 434,358 vehicles during the quarter, a 5% decrease from the same period last year.
In response to these challenges, Tesla is intensifying its focus on artificial intelligence and robotics. CEO Elon Musk announced plans to begin production of the Cybercab, a fully autonomous vehicle without a steering wheel or pedals, in 2026. Additionally, the company aims to roll out its autonomous ride-sharing service, Robotaxi, to several U.S. cities in the first half of 2026.
Tesla also plans to more than double its capital expenditures to $20 billion in 2026, primarily to support its AI and robotics initiatives.
Despite the current financial downturn, Tesla's energy storage division showed positive signs, deploying a record 14.2 gigawatt-hours of storage in Q4, up 29% year over year.
As of January 30, 2026, Tesla's stock price stood at $416.56, reflecting a 3.47% decrease from the previous close. The stock's intraday high was $445.09, with a low of $414.97.
