Newly Released Videos Show Prior Altercation Between Alex Pretti and Federal Agents
Videos reveal a confrontation between Alex Pretti and federal agents 11 days before his fatal shooting in Minneapolis.
Newly released videos depict a confrontation between Alex Pretti and federal agents on January 13, 2026, in Minneapolis, 11 days before he was fatally shot by federal officers. The footage shows Pretti, a 37-year-old intensive care nurse, engaging with agents during a protest against federal immigration enforcement operations.
In the videos, Pretti is seen yelling at agents in an unmarked vehicle and kicking its taillight, causing damage. An agent then exits the vehicle, tackles Pretti to the ground, and is joined by other officers. Pretti manages to break free and remains at the scene as agents depart. A firearm is visible in his waistband during the altercation, but he does not reach for it. Pretti was reported to have a permit to carry a concealed handgun.
Steve Schleicher, the attorney representing Pretti's family, stated, "A week before Alex was gunned down in the street – despite posing no threat to anyone – he was violently assaulted by a group of ICE agents. Nothing that happened a full week before could possibly have justified Alex's killing."
The Department of Homeland Security is reviewing the footage. It remains unclear what prompted Pretti's actions during the January 13 incident. The videos also show agents deploying tear gas and pepper balls into the crowd during the altercation.
Pretti was fatally shot on January 24, 2026, during another encounter with federal officers in Minneapolis. The circumstances surrounding his death have sparked controversy and calls for further investigation.
