Starbucks Corporation reported a 5.5% increase in fiscal first-quarter revenue, reaching $9.92 billion, surpassing analyst expectations of $9.67 billion. U.S. same-store sales rose by 4%, driven by a 3% increase in transactions and a 1% rise in average ticket size, marking the first growth in comparable transactions in two years.
CEO Brian Niccol stated that the results demonstrate the effectiveness of the company's 'Back to Starbucks' strategy, which includes staffing enhancements, improved mobile ordering, and store renovations aimed at creating a more inviting atmosphere.
Internationally, same-store sales in China grew by 7%, exceeding expectations. Despite a 19% year-over-year decline in adjusted earnings per share to $0.56, slightly below the anticipated $0.59, Starbucks remains optimistic about future growth. The company projects global and U.S. comparable store sales growth of at least 3% for the fiscal year and plans to open approximately 600 to 650 new coffeehouses worldwide.
