President Donald Trump has publicly endorsed Representative Julia Letlow (R-LA) for a potential U.S. Senate bid in Louisiana, potentially setting up a primary challenge against incumbent Senator Bill Cassidy. In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated, "Should she decide to enter this Race, Julia Letlow has my Complete and Total Endorsement. RUN, JULIA, RUN!!!"
Letlow, who represents Louisiana's 5th Congressional District, expressed gratitude for the endorsement, stating, "I'm honored to have President Trump's endorsement and trust. My mission is clear: to ensure the nation our children inherit is safer and stronger."
Senator Cassidy, seeking a third term, responded to the development by affirming his commitment to the race: "I'm proudly running for re-election as a principled conservative who gets things done for the people of Louisiana. If Congresswoman Letlow decides to run I am confident I will win."
Cassidy was one of seven Republican senators who voted to convict Trump during his 2021 impeachment trial following the January 6 Capitol attack.
Letlow has not officially announced a Senate bid. She entered Congress in 2021 after winning a special election to succeed her late husband, Luke Letlow, who passed away from COVID-19 complications before taking office.
