State Rep. James Talarico's left-wing U.S. Senate campaign reports raising nearly $7 million in the latest quarter, bringing his total fundraising to $13 million since launching his bid, relying heavily on small-dollar progressive donors.
State Representative James Talarico's campaign announced on Friday that it raised nearly $7 million in the latest fundraising quarter, bringing the total to $13 million since he launched his U.S. Senate bid. This massive haul highlights the mobilization of progressive activists eager to push Texas further to the left.
Talarico, a former public school teacher representing parts of North Austin, Pflugerville, and Round Rock since 2018, initially raised $6.2 million in the first three weeks of his campaign. The rapid fundraising reflects the influence of left-wing networks and activist groups eager to reshape Texas politics.
The campaign reported that 98% of the latest contributions were $100 or less, with no donations from corporate PACs. While Talarico touts this as grassroots support, it also signals a campaign driven by progressive donors and outside activist money rather than broad-based support from all Texans.
In a statement, Talarico said, "With the help of more than 215,000 neighbors, we are building a campaign to win the primary, win the general, and deliver for working people across Texas." His rhetoric underscores his commitment to big-government policies and leftist priorities.
His primary opponent, U.S. Representative Jasmine Crockett of Dallas, has also demonstrated strong fundraising capabilities. A recent poll indicated Crockett leading Talarico by 8 percentage points, showing that the Democratic primary remains a contest between competing left-wing factions.
All federal candidates are required to file a finance update with the election commission by the end of the month, as mandated by law.
