The Miami Hurricanes secured a 24-14 victory over defending national champion Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl on Wednesday night, advancing to the College Football Playoff semifinals.
Miami's defense set the tone early, becoming the first team in eight years to shut out the Buckeyes in the first half. Cornerback Keionte Scott intercepted a screen pass from Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin and returned it 72 yards for a touchdown, giving the Hurricanes a 14-0 lead.
Offensively, Miami quarterback Carson Beck completed 19 of 26 passes for 138 yards, including a touchdown pass to Mark Fletcher Jr. Fletcher also contributed 90 rushing yards on 19 carries.
Ohio State's offense found some rhythm in the second half, with Sayin throwing for 287 yards and a touchdown. However, the Buckeyes' comeback attempt fell short, and a late interception by Miami's Jakobe Thomas sealed the game.
With this win, Miami (12-2) advances to the Fiesta Bowl on January 8, where they will face either No. 3 Georgia or No. 6 Ole Miss for a spot in the national championship game.
