Body Found Near Home of Missing Texas Teen; No Foul Play Suspected
Authorities discovered a body near the residence of missing 19-year-old Camila Mendoza Olmos; foul play is not suspected.
A body was discovered Tuesday afternoon in a field approximately 100 yards from the residence of 19-year-old Camila Mendoza Olmos, who has been missing since December 24. Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar stated that the body was found around 4:45 p.m. local time by a joint team from the sheriff's office and the FBI. The area had been previously searched, but due to tall grass, authorities decided to revisit it.
The clothing on the body closely matches the description of what Mendoza Olmos was believed to be wearing when she disappeared. A firearm was also found near the body. Salazar noted that a firearm belonging to a relative of Mendoza Olmos had been reported missing, but it has not yet been confirmed if it is the same weapon.
Sheriff Salazar indicated that foul play is not suspected at this time and mentioned there were indicators of self-harm. He also stated that Mendoza Olmos had been "going through a tough time." The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office will determine the identity of the body and the cause of death.
Mendoza Olmos was last seen on the morning of December 24 near her home in northwest Bexar County. Surveillance footage captured her walking near her residence around 7 a.m. She left without her phone, which was found at home.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding her disappearance and the discovery of the body.
