Colorado Players Win Big in Record $1.8 Billion Powerball Drawing
Four Colorado residents secured significant prizes in the historic Christmas Eve Powerball drawing, including one $500,000 winner and three $100,000 winners.
In the historic Christmas Eve Powerball drawing, four Colorado residents secured significant prizes. A ticket purchased at a King Soopers on Baptist Road in Colorado Springs matched five numbers and the Power Play option, resulting in a $500,000 win. Additionally, three tickets matched four numbers and the Powerball, each winning $100,000. These tickets were sold at a 7-Eleven in Lone Tree, an Alta Convenience on Prairie Avenue in Pueblo, and a Circle K on Centennial Boulevard in Colorado Springs.
The winning numbers for the December 24 drawing were 4, 25, 31, 52, 59, with the Powerball number 19. The jackpot, totaling $1.817 billion, was won by a single ticket sold in Arkansas, marking the second-largest lottery prize in U.S. history.
Nationwide, eight tickets matched all five white balls, each winning at least $1 million. These tickets were sold in California, Indiana, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. California's Match 5 prize differs due to the state's pari-mutuel payout system, which determines prize amounts based on sales and the number of winners.
Powerball drawings occur every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET. Tickets cost $2 per play and are available in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.
