Arkansas Ticket Wins $1.8 Billion Powerball Jackpot
A Powerball ticket sold in Cabot, Arkansas, has won a $1.8 billion jackpot, the second-largest in U.S. history.
A Powerball ticket purchased at a Murphy USA gas station in Cabot, Arkansas, has won a $1.8 billion jackpot, marking the second-largest lottery prize in U.S. history. The winning numbers drawn on December 24 were 4, 25, 31, 52, 59, and the red Powerball 19. The winner has the option to receive the prize as a lump sum of approximately $834.9 million before taxes or as an annuity paid over 30 years.
Under Arkansas law, lottery winners of prizes exceeding $500,000 can choose to remain anonymous for up to three years. This provision aims to protect winners from potential threats and unsolicited financial requests.
Financial advisors recommend that lottery winners assemble a team of professionals, including attorneys and financial planners, to manage their newfound wealth effectively. This approach helps in addressing tax obligations, investment strategies, and long-term financial planning.
The Powerball jackpot had been accumulating since the last win on September 6, resulting in 46 consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner. The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are approximately 1 in 292.2 million.
The next Powerball drawing is scheduled for Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET.
