Powerball Jackpot Reaches $1.7 Billion for Christmas Eve Drawing
The Powerball jackpot has climbed to an estimated $1.7 billion after 46 consecutive drawings without a grand prize winner, setting the stage for a potentially historic Christmas Eve drawing.
The Powerball jackpot has surged to an estimated $1.7 billion after 46 consecutive drawings without a grand prize winner, making it the fourth-largest in the game's history. The next drawing is scheduled for Wednesday night, coinciding with Christmas Eve.
The winning numbers from Monday's drawing were 3, 18, 36, 41, 54, and the red Powerball 7. Despite no jackpot winner, nine tickets matched all five white balls, each earning a $1 million prize. These tickets were sold in Florida, Georgia, Illinois, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.
The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million. Winners can choose between an annuitized prize paid over 29 years or a lump-sum cash option. For the current jackpot, the cash value is estimated at $781.3 million before taxes.
Powerball is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Tickets cost $2 each, and drawings are held three times a week: Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET.
Historically, the Powerball jackpot has been won once on Christmas Eve (2011) and four times on Christmas Day (1996, 2002, 2010, and 2013).
