Greta Thunberg Arrested at London Pro-Palestinian Protest

Summary

Swedish activist Greta Thunberg was detained in London for displaying a placard supporting a proscribed organization during a pro-Palestinian demonstration.

Swedish activist Greta Thunberg was arrested in central London on Tuesday during a pro-Palestinian demonstration. Thunberg, 22, was detained for displaying a placard that read, "I support the Palestine Action prisoners. I oppose genocide."

The protest took place outside the offices of Aspen Insurance, a company alleged to provide services to Elbit Systems UK, a subsidiary of Israeli defense firm Elbit Systems. Two other activists were arrested earlier for spraying red paint on the building's facade.

City of London Police confirmed the arrests, stating that Thunberg was detained for "displaying an item in support of a proscribed organisation... contrary to Section 13 of the Terrorism Act 2000."

Palestine Action, the group referenced on Thunberg's placard, was designated a terrorist organization by the UK government in July 2025. Members of the group have been on hunger strike while awaiting trial for alleged offenses related to previous protests.

Thunberg has been released on bail until March 2026.
