Greta Thunberg Arrested in London for Displaying Pro-Palestine Action Placard

Summary

Swedish activist Greta Thunberg was detained in London for holding a sign supporting Palestine Action, a group recently designated as a terrorist organization by the UK government.

Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg was arrested in central London on Tuesday during a pro-Palestinian demonstration. Thunberg, 22, was detained for displaying a placard supporting Palestine Action, a group the UK government proscribed as a terrorist organization earlier this year.

The protest took place outside the offices of Aspen Insurance, a company alleged to provide services to Israeli defense firm Elbit Systems. Thunberg held a sign reading, "I support the Palestine Action prisoners. I oppose genocide."

City of London Police confirmed the arrest, stating that a 22-year-old woman was detained for displaying an item in support of a proscribed organization, contrary to Section 13 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

Two other activists were also arrested during the demonstration for suspected criminal damage after spraying red paint on the building.

Palestine Action was designated as a terrorist organization by the UK government in July 2025, following incidents including the vandalism of military aircraft at RAF Brize Norton. The proscription makes it a criminal offense to support or be a member of the group, with penalties of up to 14 years in prison.

Thunberg has previously faced legal consequences for civil disobedience in both Sweden and the UK but was acquitted in an unrelated London protest case in February 2024.
