Authorities Seek Public's Help in Identifying Brown University Shooting Suspect

Summary

Providence police are urging the community to assist in identifying the suspect involved in the recent Brown University shooting that resulted in two fatalities and nine injuries.

Providence police are calling on the public to help identify the suspect responsible for the recent shooting at Brown University, which left two students dead and nine others injured.

At a news conference on Tuesday, Providence Police Chief Col. Oscar Perez revealed that the suspect was seen in the College Hill neighborhood around 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, hours before the attack.

"We have video footage of that and we believe that he was actually casing out this area to commit the crime," Perez stated.

The police department has released an enhanced image of the suspect, described as a stocky male, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, wearing dark clothing and a dark surgical-style mask.

Authorities are urging residents to review any personal surveillance footage that might capture the suspect's movements.

"Our officers, our agents are looking at terabytes of data and we're looking for a moment that is shorter than somebody taking a breath," Perez said.

The shooting occurred shortly after 4 p.m. on Saturday inside a first-floor classroom at the Barus & Holley building, which houses Brown's engineering and physics departments.

The victims have been identified as first-year student MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Midlothian, Virginia, and sophomore Ella Cook from Mountain Brook, Alabama.

The FBI has deployed nearly 30 specialists to support survivors and victims' families.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have yet to determine a motive for the attack.
