Apple Reportedly Testing iMac Pro with M5 Max Chip
Leaked internal software suggests Apple is developing a high-end iMac featuring the M5 Max chip, potentially marking the return of the iMac Pro.
Recent leaks from Apple's internal software indicate the company is testing a high-end iMac equipped with the M5 Max chip. References to an iMac with the identifier J833c running on platform H17C, associated with the M5 Max codename "Sotra C," have been discovered in kernel debug kit files used by Apple engineers.
The M5 Max chip, expected to debut next year, is anticipated to offer significant performance improvements over its predecessor, the M4 Max, which features 16 CPU cores and 40 GPU cores.
This development suggests a potential revival of the iMac Pro line, which was discontinued in 2021. The original iMac Pro, launched in 2017, was aimed at professional users requiring robust performance.
While the presence of this iMac in internal software builds indicates active testing, it does not guarantee a public release. Apple often tests various configurations internally, and not all make it to market.
In addition to the iMac, the leaked files reference other upcoming Mac configurations, including 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, new Mac mini models, and Mac Studio models with M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips.
Apple has not officially commented on these leaks or provided details about future product releases.
