Brian Walshe Convicted of First-Degree Murder in Wife's Disappearance
Brian Walshe has been found guilty of first-degree murder in the disappearance and presumed death of his wife, Ana Walshe, nearly three years after she went missing.
Brian Walshe, a Massachusetts resident, has been convicted of first-degree murder in connection with the disappearance and presumed death of his wife, Ana Walshe, who was last seen on January 1, 2023. Despite the absence of her body, the jury found Walshe guilty after deliberating for nearly six hours over two days.
Ana Walshe, a 39-year-old real estate executive originally from Serbia, was reported missing by her employer on January 4, 2023, after failing to show up for work. Brian Walshe initially told authorities that his wife had left their Cohasset home for a work emergency in Washington, D.C., but investigators found no evidence supporting this claim.
Prosecutors presented substantial evidence during the trial, including internet searches on devices linked to Brian Walshe for terms such as "best way to dispose of a body" and "how long for someone to be missing to inherit." Surveillance footage showed Walshe purchasing cleaning supplies and tools, and disposing of heavy trash bags in dumpsters. Blood-stained items, including a hacksaw and a piece of rug, were recovered from dumpsters and linked to Ana Walshe through DNA testing.
In November 2025, just before jury selection began, Brian Walshe pleaded guilty to charges of misleading police and improperly disposing of a body but maintained his innocence regarding the murder charge. His defense argued that he found his wife dead and panicked, leading to his actions.
Norfolk County District Attorney Michael Morrissey commended the investigators for their thorough work, stating, "They left no stone unturned." He also noted the significance of securing a first-degree murder conviction without the victim's body, emphasizing the impact on the couple's three young children who are now without a mother.
Sentencing is scheduled for Wednesday, with Walshe facing a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole.
