Father and Son Identified as Suspects in Bondi Beach Hanukkah Shooting
Australian authorities have identified a father and son as the suspects in the Bondi Beach shooting during a Hanukkah celebration, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries.
Australian authorities have identified a father and son as the suspects in the deadly shooting at Sydney's Bondi Beach during a Hanukkah celebration. The attack resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries.
New South Wales Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon stated that the suspects are a 50-year-old man and his 24-year-old son. The father was killed at the scene, while the son was wounded by police and remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Lanyon noted that there was limited prior knowledge of the suspects by authorities and no current indications of previous criminal offenses. The elder suspect held a firearms license for six weapons, all of which were recovered from the scene. Additionally, two active improvised explosive devices were found at the location.
The attack, which targeted a Hanukkah celebration attended by over 1,000 people, has drawn condemnation from leaders worldwide. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described the incident as "a targeted attack on Jewish Australians on the first day of Hanukkah, which should be a day of joy, a celebration of faith."
Investigations are ongoing to determine the motives and any potential ideological ties of the suspects.
