Ukraine Faces Widespread Power Outages Amid Russian Attacks; Zelenskyy Engages in Peace Talks
Russian missile and drone strikes have left hundreds of thousands in Ukraine without electricity, prompting President Zelenskyy to engage in peace discussions with U.S. and European representatives in Berlin.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Russian missile and drone attacks have left hundreds of thousands without electricity across multiple regions, including Mykolaiv, Odessa, Kherson, Chernihiv, Donetsk, Sumy, and Dnipro.
"Since yesterday, all our services have been working to restore the supply of electricity, heat and water to the regions after Russian attacks on the energy infrastructure," Zelenskyy stated.
The Ukrainian Air Force noted that Russia launched one missile and 138 drones overnight, with 110 drones intercepted.
In response to the escalating situation, Zelenskyy announced plans to meet with U.S. and European representatives in Berlin to discuss the fundamentals of peace.
"Ukraine needs peace on decent terms and we are ready to work as constructively as possible," he emphasized.
Zelenskyy also indicated a willingness to abandon Ukraine's NATO membership bid in exchange for legally binding security guarantees from the U.S., Europe, and other allies.
"We are focusing on how to reliably guarantee security for Ukraine so that the experience of the Budapest Memorandum and the Russian invasion is never repeated," he added.
The ongoing attacks have severely impacted Ukraine's energy infrastructure, leading to widespread power outages and prompting urgent diplomatic efforts to seek a resolution to the conflict.
