Former Michigan Coach Sherrone Moore Charged with Home Invasion and Stalking
Sherrone Moore, recently dismissed as Michigan's head football coach, faces charges including home invasion and stalking following an alleged incident involving a female staff member.
Former University of Michigan head football coach Sherrone Moore was arraigned Friday on charges of third-degree home invasion, stalking, and breaking and entering. These charges stem from an alleged incident on Wednesday involving a female Michigan football staff member.
Moore's bond was set at $25,000, with conditions including GPS monitoring and continued mental health treatment. The home invasion charge is a felony, while the stalking and breaking and entering charges are misdemeanors.
The university terminated Moore on Wednesday for cause, citing an inappropriate relationship with the female staffer. Athletic Director Warde Manuel stated, "This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior."
According to prosecutors, Moore and the staffer had an intimate relationship for several years. After the woman ended the relationship on Monday, Moore allegedly made numerous unwanted phone calls and text messages. On Wednesday, he reportedly entered her residence without permission, threatened self-harm, and made statements such as, "I'm going to kill myself. I'm going to make you watch. My blood is on your hands. You ruined my life."
Moore, 39, was detained by police in Saline, Michigan, on Wednesday evening and transferred to the Pittsfield Township Police Department. He was released from jail Friday afternoon. A probable cause conference is scheduled for January 22, 2026.
University President Domenico Grasso emphasized the institution's commitment to integrity and accountability, stating, "Our swift and decisive action reflects the University's staunch commitment to a campus culture of respect, integrity and accountability."
