Marjorie Taylor Greene Alleges Republican Hypocrisy in Support for Trump
Outgoing Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene claims congressional Republicans privately mocked Donald Trump before publicly supporting him after his 2024 nomination.
Outgoing Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has alleged that many of her congressional colleagues privately ridiculed Donald Trump before publicly endorsing him following his 2024 presidential nomination. In an interview with CBS's "60 Minutes," Greene stated, "I watched many of my colleagues go from making fun of him, making fun of how he talks, making fun of me constantly for supporting him, to when he won the primary in 2024, they all started – excuse my language, Lesley – kissing his ass."
Greene, who has been a staunch supporter of Trump, is set to leave Congress in January. She has recently faced public criticism from Trump, who labeled her a "traitor" and withdrew his endorsement. This fallout appears to stem from Greene's support for releasing documents related to the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, a move Trump has opposed.
In her interview, Greene suggested that fear of public rebuke from Trump prevents many Republicans from expressing dissenting opinions. "I think they're terrified to step out of line and get a nasty Truth Social post on them," she said.
Greene has reported receiving numerous threats, which she attributes to both her initial support for Trump and her subsequent opposition regarding the Epstein files. She claims that after Trump called her a "traitor," threats began coming from his supporters as well.
