Giannis Antetokounmpo and Milwaukee Bucks Discuss Future Amid Team's Struggles
Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo is in discussions with the team regarding his future, as the Bucks face a challenging season.
Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo and his agent, Alex Saratsis, have initiated discussions with the team about his future, including the possibility of a trade before the February 1 deadline, according to ESPN. Antetokounmpo, a two-time NBA MVP and nine-time All-Star, is in his 13th season with Milwaukee, which drafted him 15th overall in 2013. Since winning the NBA championship in 2021, the Bucks have underperformed in the playoffs, exiting in the first round for the past three years. This season, the team is struggling, currently standing at 9-13 following a seven-game losing streak. Despite the team's struggles, Antetokounmpo, who turns 31 soon, is having a strong individual season, averaging 30.6 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game, with career-high shooting percentages (63.9% overall and 43.5% from three). Over his 875 career games, he is averaging 24.0 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 5.0 assists. He becomes eligible for a four-year, $275 million extension in October 2026, which he could sign with either Milwaukee or a new team six months after a potential trade.
