Ole Miss Players Dispute Lane Kiffin's Account of Departure
Several Ole Miss players have publicly contested former head coach Lane Kiffin's claim that the team requested he continue coaching through the College Football Playoff before his departure to LSU.
Former Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin announced his departure to LSU, stating that his request to coach the Rebels through the College Football Playoff was denied by athletic director Keith Carter, despite the team asking him to continue.
However, multiple Ole Miss players have publicly disputed Kiffin's account. Junior linebacker Suntarine Perkins wrote on social media, "That was not the message you said in the meeting room. Everybody that was in there can vouch on this." Sophomore offensive lineman Brycen Sanders added, "I think everyone that was in that room would disagree."
In response to Kiffin's departure, Ole Miss promoted defensive coordinator Pete Golding to head coach. Golding, 41, has been with the Rebels since 2023 and previously served as Alabama's defensive coordinator.
Kiffin's move to LSU comes after leading Ole Miss to an 11-1 season and a likely College Football Playoff appearance. His new seven-year contract with LSU is valued at $91 million, averaging $13 million per year, making him one of the highest-paid coaches in college football.
