Lane Kiffin Departs Ole Miss to Become LSU Head Coach

Lane Kiffin has announced his departure from Ole Miss to accept the head coaching position at LSU, leaving the Rebels ahead of their anticipated College Football Playoff appearance.

"After a lot of prayer and time spent with family, I made the difficult decision to accept the head coaching position at LSU," Kiffin stated on social media.

Kiffin's tenure at Ole Miss spanned six seasons, during which he achieved a 55-19 record, including four 10-win seasons.

The move to LSU comes after the Tigers dismissed head coach Brian Kelly in October. Kiffin was reportedly offered a seven-year contract worth over $90 million, positioning him among the highest-paid coaches in college football.

Kiffin expressed a desire to coach Ole Miss through the playoffs but stated that his request was denied by athletic director Keith Carter.

"I was hoping to complete a historic six-season run with this year's team by leading Ole Miss through the playoffs... My request to do so was denied by Keith Carter," Kiffin noted.

In response to Kiffin's departure, Ole Miss has promoted defensive coordinator Pete Golding to head coach.

Kiffin's coaching career has included previous head coaching roles at Tennessee, USC, and Florida Atlantic, as well as serving as offensive coordinator at Alabama.

LSU is scheduled to introduce Kiffin as their new head coach in a press conference on Monday.
