Multiple Arrests Made During Anti-ICE Protest in New York's Chinatown
Several individuals were arrested in New York City's Chinatown during a protest against potential Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity.
On Saturday, multiple individuals were arrested in New York City's Chinatown during a protest against potential Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity. Demonstrators gathered near Centre Street, blocking vehicles and chanting slogans such as "ICE out of New York." At one point, protesters obstructed a van from exiting a garage.
The New York Police Department (NYPD) stated that officers observed several people blocking the street and issued multiple dispersal orders, which were ignored. Consequently, multiple individuals were taken into custody. The NYPD did not provide specific numbers or details regarding the charges.
This protest follows a federal immigration enforcement action in October targeting vendors on Canal Street in Chinatown, during which at least nine people were arrested. U.S. Representative Dan Goldman noted that four U.S. citizens were detained for nearly 24 hours without federal charges following that incident. The Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
