Morgan Geyser, convicted in the 2014 'Slender Man' stabbing, was apprehended in Illinois after escaping from a Wisconsin group home. Geyser, 23, cut off her Department of Corrections monitoring bracelet and left the facility on Saturday night. She was last seen around 8 p.m. in the area of Kroncke Drive in Madison, Wisconsin, accompanied by an adult acquaintance. The Madison Police Department was notified of her disappearance on Sunday morning and promptly alerted the public. By Sunday evening, authorities confirmed that Geyser had been taken into custody in Illinois. Geyser had been conditionally released earlier this year from the Winnebago Mental Health Institute, where she had been held since 2018 after pleading guilty to attempted first-degree intentional homicide for stabbing a classmate at age 12. The 2014 attack was reportedly carried out to appease the fictional character Slender Man. The victim survived the assault. Geyser's co-defendant, Anissa Weier, was released under supervision in 2021.
