Netflix Announces 10-for-1 Stock Split Amidst Strong Growth
Netflix has declared a 10-for-1 stock split to make shares more accessible, following significant revenue growth and strategic expansions.
Netflix has announced a 10-for-1 stock split, aiming to make its shares more accessible to employees and retail investors. Shareholders of record as of November 10 will receive nine additional shares for each share held, with trading on a split-adjusted basis commencing on November 17. This marks Netflix's third stock split since its 2002 IPO, the previous one occurring in 2015.
The company's stock has experienced substantial growth, rising over 360% in the past three years, significantly outperforming competitors like Walt Disney and Comcast.
In its third-quarter earnings report, Netflix disclosed revenues of $11.51 billion, a 17% increase year-over-year. Earnings per share were reported at $5.87, impacted by a one-time $619 million charge related to a Brazilian tax dispute. Excluding this charge, operating margins would have exceeded the forecasted 31.5%, reaching approximately 33%.
The company's advertising segment has shown notable progress, recording its best quarter to date and remaining on track to more than double revenues in 2025. The ad-supported tier now boasts 94 million monthly active users globally, with U.S. members averaging 41 hours of monthly engagement.
Netflix's content strategy continues to drive engagement, with the animated film "K-Pop Demon Hunters" becoming its most popular film ever, leading to strategic partnerships with Mattel and Hasbro for related merchandise.
The stock split is intended to reset the market price of Netflix's common stock to a range more accessible to employees participating in the company's stock option program.
Following the announcement, Netflix shares rose approximately 3% in after-hours trading, reflecting positive investor sentiment.
