Federal Immigration Enforcement Operation Begins in Charlotte
U.S. Customs and Border Protection initiated an immigration enforcement operation in Charlotte, North Carolina, resulting in 81 arrests on the first day.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has commenced an immigration enforcement operation in Charlotte, North Carolina, named "Charlotte's Web." On the first day, agents arrested 81 individuals with significant criminal and immigration histories, according to Gregory K. Bovino, the operation's commander.
This marks the first instance where CBP is leading immigration enforcement in Charlotte without coordination with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). While ICE has previously conducted operations in the city, Saturday's activities were carried out solely by CBP.
Local officials have expressed concern over the operation. Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles stated that such actions "are causing unnecessary fear and uncertainty."
The duration and specific details of the operation have not been disclosed by CBP.
